Kathrine Savu is a self-taught American artist whose career spans over 30 years.
Born and raised in the small town of Ishpeming, Michigan, her name has gained
prominence throughout the midwest and United States. Savu's primary media is
acrylic or watercolor painting and pencil illustration. The subject matter depicts
historical and ethnic portrayals of life in northern Michigan and the midwest.

Some common themes in her art include: immigration and homesteading, rural
Americana, respect for the natural world and the familial influences of cultural
tradition, ethnicity, hard work and perserverence.

She has illustrated two children's books by Michigan author Ragene Henry.  For
decades Savu's large murals have brightened streets throughout Marquette County,
Michigan.  Companies and organizations frequently commission her fine artwork.

Savu has owned Fire Center Studio in Ishpeming, Michigan since 1987. While her
painting and illustration is done out of her studio, her work sells in galleries and gift
stores throughout northern Michigan and the midwest. Her primary gallery retailer is
Michigamme Moonshine Gallery in Michigamme, Michigan.
